SERTIFIKASI FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL DI PT SUPARMA TBK SEBAGAI STRATEGI PENGUATAN DAYA SAING PRODUK

Abstract

This research aims to recognize thoroughly the implementation of the Forest Stewardship Council Chain of Custody (FSC COC) at PT Suparma Tbk which engaged in paper production so that the company gets a certificate of FSC COC. The certificate shows companies’ commitment which eco-friendly by contributing to forest conservation. The study also determines some facts about whether FSC COC certification can be used as a company’s strategy in empowering product competitiveness developed by PT Suparma Tbk. The research applies qualitatively with a descriptive approach. Furthermore, the instrument in the data collection technique was a deep interview with competent sources in the company, field observation, and analysis of relevant documents in the certification context. The data analysis technique used triangulation to analyze some data that have been collected to prove the truth of the facts. The result shows that the implementation of the Forest Stewardship Council Chain of Custody (FSC COC) at PT Suparma Tbk runs effectively and has a positive impact on environmental sustainability, product quality, and consumers’ perception. Moreover, FSC COC certification is proven to be an effective strategy in improving the product competitiveness developed by PT Suparma Tbk in global market. Besides, it makes a significant contribution to literature about environmental certification and product competitiveness, especially in the paper industry sector.
