Abstract

This research aimed to examine the effect of workload and work environment on employees’
performance with burnout as an intervening variable. The population was 50 employees of Surabaya
Social Service.The research was quantitative. Moreover, the data were taken from population.
Furthermore, the data collection technique used Non-Probability sampling, in which the sample was
not taken randomly. The instrument in sampling technique used the Slovin formula. In line with that,
there were 44 respondents as the sample. Additionally, the data analysis technique used PLS (Partial
Least Square) with SmartPLS 3.0. The research result concluded that the workload had a direct
positive and significant effect on employees’ performance. Likewise, the work environment had a
positive and significant effect on employees’ performance. Similarly, the workload had a positive and
significant effect on employees’ performance. In addition, the workload had a positive and significant
effect on burnout. Also, the burnout had a negative and significant effect on employees’ performance.
Meanwhile, the indirect effect’s result showed that the workload had a positive and significant effect on
employees’ performance through burnout as an intervening variable. Similarly, the work environment
had a positive and significant effect on employees’ performance through burnout as an intervening
variable.
