Abstract

This study aims to find out the comparison of the efficiency level between conventional banks and Islamic banks by applying Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), and efficiency improvement of Islamic banks. This study applies quantitative research. The study collects samples by applying the purposive sampling. Based on that method, there are 72 samples from 9 conventional banks and 9 Islamic banks which are registered in Indonesia’s Stock Exchange and Bank Indonesia during 2016-2019. The study applies DEA with Variable Return to Scale (VRS) input Oriented. The input variables of this study are the fixed assets, the labor load, and the deposit. On the other hand, the output variables of this study are the operating income, the cash, and the credit. This study also applies Mann-Whitney analysis to find out the difference of the efficiency level between the conventional bank and the Islamic bank. The result of this study concludes that the efficiency in the conventional bank and the Islamic bank during 2016-2019 shows fluctuation. The result of the analysis shows the significant difference in the efficiency level between the public conventional bank and the public Islamic bank. The conventional bank shows its efficiency value is higher than the public Islamic banks.
